Originally established in 1995 as a painting contractor, Rhapsody became Lead-Certified with the California Department of Health in 1996. The company quickly became an early leader in environmentally conscious Northern California, with the majority of painting companies in the area not certified, and an estimated 85-90% of buildings in San Francisco containing lead-based paint. Today, Rhapsody holds Painting and General Contractor licenses in the state of California and has expert capabilities using lead-safe painting techniques and technologically advanced coating systems. In recent years, the revenue mix has comprised painting and repair projects: 50% of 2020 lead-based remediation work (40%), and window installation repair (10%).

Building renovation, maintenance and environmental trends drive demand generally. The profitability of individual companies depends on efficiency of operations. Large companies can have advantages in efficiency by working multiple projects concurrently. Small companies can compete effectively by specializing in unusual or difficult applications and providing superior customer service.

Rhapsody has thrived in its markets by having both smaller company attributes – by establishing a specialist position with lead certifications, industry knowledge of larger company characteristics.  Its ability to handle visible projects of significant size and scope makes Rhapsody very competitive.  Rhapsody was originally formed to compete in the lead remediation corner of the construction market.  This has resulted in industry recognition, recurring projects, and favorable pricing in restoration markets.
